Creative Economy and Intangible Cultural Heritage

The programme “Creative Economy and Intangible Heritage”, organized to mark the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (17 October), aims to highlight the vital role of living heritage in fostering cultural diversity and sustainable economic development, while boosting local creative economies.

It brings together experts and stakeholders to discuss how intangible cultural heritage can drive creative economy activities at the local level, support local communities, and contribute to safeguarding traditions, crafts, and knowledge. The discussion focuses on raising awareness about the challenges faced by intangible heritage and exploring opportunities for its integration into the creative economy for social cohesion and innovation.

Special focus will be placed on the intangible heritage of handmade glass traditions in Paraćin (Serbia), gastronomic heritage, singing traditions in Montenegro, and the making of traditional textile products in Montenegro.

The event will showcase examples of good practices in the protection of intangible heritage and its connection with the creative economy at the local level. It aims to highlight successful initiatives that integrate the safeguarding of cultural traditions with the promotion of local creative economy activities, thereby supporting community development and sustainability. Through practical examples, speakers will emphasize the importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage as a valuable resource for cultural identity and economic innovation.

The recommendations from this event will be distributed to local governments and other interested parties to serve as a roadmap for supporting the protection of intangible heritage and the development of intangible-heritage-based creative economies.
