Teniendo en cuenta la recomendación formulada en la reunión de Río, en junio de 2002 se celebró en la Sede de la UNESCO, París, una reunión internacional sobre el tema “Patrimonio cultural inmaterial – Elaboración de un glosario”. Los expertos asistentes a la reunión aprobaron una nueva definición del patrimonio cultural inmaterial, contenida en el anteproyecto de convención internacional para la salvaguardia del patrimonio cultural inmaterial, que debía examinarse en la primera reunión intergubernamental de expertos sobre el tema (UNESCO, París, 23-27 de septiembre de 2002)
