The move towards a single global submission system for periodic reporting under the 2003 Convention provides the basis for a revised reporting process and new capacity-building approach. At its eleventh session (17-18 June 2026, UNESCO Headquarters), the General Assembly approved provisionally and on an experimental basis the relevant revisions to the Operational Directives to support this transition (Resolution 11.GA 7).

Following the publication of the simplified reporting forms on 30 June 2026, the Training of trainers ‘Periodic reporting under the 2003 Convention’ aims to update the knowledge and tools of facilitators previously involved in periodic reporting, and of category 2 centres under the auspices of UNESCO active in the field of intangible cultural heritage. It will introduce and discuss the new capacity-building approach and related training modules developed by the Secretariat of the Convention to support designated focal points in coordinating periodic reporting in their countries under the single global submission system, with the adjusted submission deadline of 30 June 2027.

In particular, the Training of trainers will present the blended delivery format and the different components of the course, including online self-paced modules and facilitator-led materials.  It will also constitute an opportunity for facilitators and centres to provide feedback on the proposed training approach for focal points and discuss the activities and calendar foreseen in each region.
