LIVIND Meeting and Workshop

Led by the Finnish Heritage Agency, the LIVIND project (2021–2024) concentrates on recognising the practical ways how living heritage can support sustainable development and how living heritage could be developed and practised in more sustainable ways.

The LIVIND project largely builds on using online work tools. This event collects project parties to the second in-real-life event, now in Riga, Latvia, on 12-13 June. Bringing together experts and practisers of living heritage from nine North European countries the occasion allows to celebrate together the 20th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. However, as a catalyst of ideas and opportunity for sharing experiences in the ICH safeguarding work, it can be said that the LIVIND project as such celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Convention.

Along with the keynote speeches, workshops and joint discussions of the project proceedings, this meeting highlights the LIVIND Pilot Projects, 20 initiatives from across Northern Europe that have been testing and developing practices that support the safeguarding of living heritage with special attention to the different aspects of sustainable development.

Along with sustainable development, this meeting will focus more on the connections between ICH and CCIs (Cultural and Creative Industries). Through keynote speeches and workshops, we will discuss together what CCI development could have for ICH to offer while bearing in mind ethics and balancing between sustainability aspects when safeguarding living heritage.

We are expecting participants from across our project area, from Nuuk, Greenland all the way to Katowice, Poland, to gather in hopefully wonderful summer weather right next to the Riga old town area!
