The ICH Secretariat has received 56 new files by the 31 March deadline: 7 nominations to the Urgent Safeguarding List, 41 to the Representative List, 6 proposals for the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices and 3 financial assistance requests. 61 States have applied, of which four for the first time and ten that have no inscribed element so far.
As in previous cycles, only 50 files will be processed according to the level of priority determined in the Operational Directives. Details on submitting States and the priorities for 2016 cycle can be consulted online.
As Intangible cultural heritage is often shared by communities on the territories of more than one State, multinational inscriptions on the Lists constitute an important mechanism for promoting international cooperation. States Parties are encouraged to declare and to consult intentions of nomination to facilitate such processes, as well as the files already submitted to be evaluated in future cycles.
