The Resource kit for primary and secondary school teachers ‘Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage in Ukraine’ was developed by the UNESCO-EU project in 2021. It includes step-by-step guidance on how to integrate living heritage in core school subjects and 10 case studies from EU countries demonstrating how teachers implemented their innovative pilot projects across different contexts and conditions.

From 2021 to 2023, the Austrian Commission for UNESCO’s Education and Intangible Cultural Heritage Departments led a project to foster collaboration between Austrian bearers of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and educators to integrate living into teaching. The Resource Kit was translated into German. In 2022, a workshop brought together living heritage bearers and teachers from Austrian ASPnet schools to develop strategies for incorporating living heritage into lessons. Participants created and refined lesson plans, which were implemented in schools with ongoing support from the Austrian Commission for UNESCO. By mid-2023, most projects were successfully integrated into the schools.

The Commission collected insights from these projects over the summer of 2023 and published the findings 2024 in an online publication titled “IMMATERIAL MATTERS - Immaterielles Kulturerbe in der pädagogischen Praxis” (in English: “IMMATERIAL MATTERS - Intangible Cultural Heritage in Educational Practice”). This publication offers practical guidance, addressing challenges, solutions, and methods for fostering collaboration between schools and living heritage bearers. It also links the project to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in promoting cultural diversity and quality education.
