Whisper of Ćaska and Silence of Lace
The cultural event “Whisper of Ćaska and Silence of Lace” (Flavours to Remember, Threads that Last) is a unique celebration that brings together gastronomy and traditional craftsmanship, with the aim of preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Organized by ANGO KUD „Puračić” and the NGO “Gračaničko keranje,” the program will take place in Puračić and Gračanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina from September 26 to October 17, 2025.
The event connects two traditional festivals based on elements officially inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
- Puračka ćaska, a traditional dish from Puračić, will be the focus of the 12th Puračko Ćaskanje – a culinary competition held on September 26–27 in Puračić.
- Lacemaking (keranje), a valuable handcraft tradition, will be featured in the 2nd International Days of Lacemaking and Embroidery, taking place September 26–28 in Gračanica.
Additional program highlights include:
- September 26 - Fashion Show Featuring Handmade Lace and Embroidery (Gračanica)- A fashion show featuring a collection of garments and accessories made with traditional lace and embroidery.
- October 9 – Youth Workshop “Bake and Lace”, combining culinary and craft skills through hands-on learning.
- October 9 – Roundtable: “Threads of Memory and Flavours of Identity: Intangible Heritage Between Tradition and Modernity”, bringing together heritage experts, tradition bearers, youth, and representatives of cultural institutions to discuss the preservation, transmission, and contemporary presentation of intangible heritage.
- October 11–17 – Exhibition “See and Taste” (Puračić), where visitors can enjoy traditional food and admire handmade lacework.
Participants of this year’s event are coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, North Macedonia, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, and Turkey.
This manifestation highlights the importance of local identity, intergenerational cooperation, and international cultural exchange. Through flavours to remember and threads that last, “Whisper of Ćaska and Silence of Lace” celebrates living heritage that connects people across time and place.
