University Town Library of Shenzhen will host “Weaving Bamboo, Sharing Heritage,” a bamboo bookmark-making handmade workshop for students, Includes international students, on 17 October 2026, in celebration of the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Participants will learn about Chinese bamboo weaving, a living intangible cultural heritage, and create their own bamboo bookmark by hand. The workshop is free, bilingual (Chinese and English), and non-commercial.
As a public cultural institution, the library serves not only as a repository of knowledge but also as a platform for living heritage and cross-cultural exchange. Bamboo weaving is a traditional Chinese craft that embodies ecological wisdom, patience, and craftsmanship passed down through generations. For international students„ hands-on craft experiences offer an accessible and engaging entry point into Chinese culture. Combining reading culture with handmade creation, the library seeks to move intangible cultural heritage from “being viewed” to “being practiced,” allowing young people to carry a piece of living heritage home.
Objectives
- To promote the living transmission of intangible cultural heritage among young international students, using the library as a public cultural platform;
- To combine reading promotion with craft experience through bamboo bookmark making;
- To foster cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding among students;
