Throughout October 2026, the Poznań Heritage Centre will invite residents and visitors to explore the city through the lens of its intangible cultural heritage, focusing on the traditions, skills, practices, and expressions that continue to shape life in Poznań. The programme is organized as part of the third edition of the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, celebrated annually on 17 October following its establishment by UNESCO in 2023.

The programme will begin on 13 October with the opening of the outdoor exhibition In the Poznań Way: Stories of Intangible Heritage on the footbridge of Porta Posnania. The exhibition will present selected traditions, practices, customs, and skills characteristic of Poznań, highlighting intangible heritage as a living part of the city’s culture and identity. The exhibition will remain open to the public free of charge until 30 November.

The month will also see the launch of the Poznań Intangible Heritage Trail, a new tourist guide encouraging residents and visitors to discover well-known sites along the Royal-Imperial Route through the traditions and cultural practices connected with them. The publication will be available free of charge at local cultural and tourist institutions and online.

The main celebrations will take place on 17 and 18 October. On 17 October, participants will be invited to join a guided walking tour along the Intangible Heritage Trail, exploring places associated with the city’s living heritage. On 18 October, Porta Posnania will host an Embroidery Workshop, introducing participants to the traditional embroidery techniques used in women’s Bamberg costumes. The workshop will explore the heritage of the Bamberg settlers, whose ancestors migrated from Bamberg, Germany, and settled in villages around Poznań from the eighteenth century onwards, while giving participants the opportunity to create their own embroidered motif. Bamber’s cultural traditions in Poznań have been inscribed on Poland’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 10 July 2018.

All activities are free of charge. The project aims to raise awareness of Poznań’s living heritage, support intergenerational transmission of knowledge and skills, and encourage community engagement in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.
