New Approaches to Safeguarding Living Heritage and the 2003 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention: An International Forum of NGOs
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, the Directorate General of Living Heritage and Cultural Activities organized “New Approaches to Safeguarding Living Heritage and the 2003 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention: An International Forum of NGOs” with the cooperation of Traditional Arts Association in İstanbul on 01-03 October 2024 within the scope of the Türkiye Culture Route Festival. Members of the ICH NGO Forum Executive Board, chairs of the Forum’s working groups and representatives of NGOs specializing in intangible cultural heritage in Türkiye participated to the Forum.
In the Conference, the board members of the UNESCO ICH NGO Forum, which consists of non-governmental organizations accredited to the Convention, and the chairs of the working groups established within the Forum made presentations on different topics including current developments in the field of living heritage.
17 experts from 13 country, leading academics and representatives of NGOs working in the field of living heritage in Türkiye made valuable contributions on issues such as procedure of the NGO accreditation system, gender and intellectual property, climate change, sustainable development and tourism, legal protection and policies, ICH education, good safeguarding experiences, more balanced geographical representation for the safeguarding of living heritage for two days.
