Living Heritage! Actions for the Safeguarding of Sanjuanero Huilense / ¡Patrimonios Vivos! Acciones para la Salvaguardia del Sanjuanero Huilense
The Sanjuanero Huilense dance is the most representative modern dance expression of Huila, belonging to the field of popular arts. It has been listed on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the region level since 2011. Since then, there have been no processes for monitoring, updating, or overseeing its safeguarding efforts. Thus, it is timely to understand the cultural processes, the communities involved, the talents and arts developed, and the time dedicated to constructing meanings and significance in the different aspects that adorn and give a sense of identity to the community that lives and enjoys this dance, which has its roots in Alto Magdalena, Colombia.
Considering the importance of this living heritage and following the recommendations of the safeguarding recommendations of Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y los Saberes de Colombia, our event aims to strengthen the safeguarding processes of the Sanjuanero Huilense through actions involving research, promotion, and the establishment of updated social agreements to ensure that this cultural expression endures over time.
A participatory diagnosis of the state of the manifestation will be conducted. Then, a collaborative work will be carried out to agree on current safeguarding actions for the Sanjuanero Huilense with its bearers, creators, and managers in the department of Huila. This will be reached with four meetings in the different subregion of Huila: La Plata (west), Garzón (centro), Pitalito (south) y Neiva (north).
