This year marks the 11th edition of the only conference in Romania dedicated to educational methodologies for the transmission of traditional culture. The conference will explore how intangible cultural heritage is known, understood, documented, and transmitted, placing people and communities at the centre of this process. Particular attention will be given to the cultural knowledge held by heritage bearers and to the direct forms of transmission through which living heritage is created and sustained within communities, alongside the documentation tools and scholarly resources that enable a rigorous and contextualized understanding of cultural practices.
The discussions will address methods for documenting community experiences, perspectives, and practices, as well as the use of reliable information sources that can support accurate documentation and strengthen safeguarding practices in line with the UNESCO 2003 Convention. This community-centred approach is also reflected in the partnership with ART – Prut Crafts Association, the only NGO in Romania accredited to the Convention. Craftspeople who are members of the association will participate in the conference, accompanied by a traditional crafts fair taking place alongside the event.
Therefore, the conference will bring together perspectives on the use of archives, dictionaries, libraries, museums, and collections as sources of cultural knowledge; the creation of participatory archives by communities, craftspeople, and heritage bearers; recent approaches to the digitization of audiovisual documentation; and the ethical dimensions of these processes. It will also examine how documentation and information resources can contribute to education, transmission, contemporary heritage practices, and integrated approaches to inventorying and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, while encouraging critical discernment in the selection and use of information.
