Exhibition: ‘Living Legacies: a month celebrating Manabí´s & Santo Domingo´s intangible heritage’
As part of a series of events organized in October 2025 by the Instituto Nacional de Patrimonio Cultural in Quito, Ecuador(INPC), to mark the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the DIRECCIÓN TÉCNICA ZONAL 4 executes an ambitious program throughout the month of October combining academic and community activities. The agenda includes:
- certification ceremonies for local traditions like the Manteña Raft Festival (October 5);
- gastronomic demonstrations of Manabí’s UNESCO-recognized cuisine (weekly Saturdays);
- and, a masterclasses on toquilla hat weaving with artisans from Montecristi (October 12-15).
A central exhibition at Casa Rosada displays traditional cacao preparation tools, Chonero cheese-making equipment, and Tsáchila medicinal plants, complemented by video interviews with practitioners. The month culminates with a symposium on October 28-29 analyzing policy frameworks for coastal and Amazonian heritage preservation.
