In mid-October 2026, under the theme “Inheriting Minnan’s Cultural Heritage, Sharing the Beauty of Intangible Cultural Heritage,” the Quanzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism will organize an event to comprehensively showcase Quanzhou’s achievements in safeguarding and living transmission of its intangible cultural heritage. The event will bring together eight of Quanzhou’s intangible cultural heritage items inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Featuring both static displays and live performances, it will tell the stories of intangible cultural heritage safeguarding through a rich and diverse array of activities.
An immersive exhibition and interaction zone for intangible cultural heritage will be set up at the venue, where inheritors will display handicrafts and communicate with visitors about craftsmanship. The zone will feature Quanzhou paper cutting, the watertight-bulkhead Fu-ship-building technique, and the Anxi Tieguanyin tea processing craft and its associated tea customs.
The performance program will feature intangible cultural heritage elements including Nanyin, Quanzhou String Puppetry, and Jinjiang Glove Puppetry. Drawing on recent practices such as master-apprentice transmission, campus programs for Nanyin and puppetry, and overseas performance tours, the program will demonstrate how intangible cultural heritage transmission and communication have evolved and transformed. Artists from older, middle-aged, and younger generations will be specially invited to share the stage. These arrangements will demonstrate the enduring vitality of living heritage transmission.
