Overview:
The project aims to reinforce the value of foodways as living heritage and their contribution to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Foodways are closely linked to many aspects of socio-economic development and cultural life, including farming, fishing, rituals, traditional skills, culinary techniques, sustainable food production, seed diversity, ecosystem preservation, and knowledge about nature and the universe.
The project aims to build new knowledge and develop interactive tools to document, safeguard, and transmit foodways as living heritage to future generations. Additionally, it aims to strengthen its visibility and inclusion in policymaking at the global level. In particular, the objectives of the project are to:
- Develop a digital platform to showcase the diversity of foodways as living heritage, their connections to sustainable development, and share examples of safeguarding experiences from communities and countries worldwide.
- Create opportunities for dialogue and learning through national and international gatherings, capacity building activities, and peer-to-peer exchanges.
- Generate knowledge on how foodways contribute towards community well-being and sustainable development, through research and analytical study.
