Networking of the 20 French accredited NGOs to provide advisory services to the Committee for the Safeguarding of ICH

Within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the French Ministry of Culture has encouraged communities and ICH professionals to raise visibility of the 2003 UNESCO Convention and therefore national elements. Instigator of initiatives, the Ministry of Culture is also at the root of several actions throughout the year, such as the organization of thematic professionals meetings approaching ICH-related topics.

Focused on the French network of 20 accredited NGOs providing advisory services to the UNESCO Committee, the first professional encounter took place on June 5th at the French Ministry of Culture. This session aimed at unifying the network and favoring exchanges within the different organizations, enabling NGOs representatives to dialogue and approach common issues together. Laurier Turgeon (previous Chairman of the Executive Board of the ICH NGO Forum) has also shared his experience and expertise through an intervention about the benefits and opportunities of an active participation in the NGO forum and the Convention’s governance bodies.

The meeting also led to the production of a booklet presenting all 20 accredited NGOs and their impacting ICH projects. The document is available online on the French Ministry of Culture website.
