Pier Luigi Petrillo is UNESCO Chair Professor on Intangible Cultural Heritage and Comparative Law at Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) where he is director of the Advanced School on Culture, Policies and Democracy. He teaches Anthropology of Globalisation, Fashion Studies at Sapienza University and Cultural Heritage Management for Food and Art at Luiss University. He has been a member of the Evaluation Body of the 2003 Convention during 2019-2022, serving as EB ICH Chair in 2022. He coordinated several nomination files to UNESCO (particularly on agro-food practices) and supported and trained communities worldwide, especially concerning policies for safeguarding ICH, community participation and role of youth, biocultural diversity, economic impact of UNESCO recognition and commercialization. He is co-founder of the Global Universities Alliance for Cultural Rights. His last book is “Intangible Cultural Heritage Law in the Digital Era” (Routledge, 2026).
