Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya currently serves as Chairperson of the UNESCO National Committee for Culture in Sri Lanka (part of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO) and is a member of the National Committee on Intangible Heritage. With 45 years of engagement with the 1972 World Heritage Convention, he is a pioneer in advancing Living Heritage and People-Centred Approaches. Since 2018, he has also been a member of the 2003 Convention’s Global Facilitators Network. In addition to national-level training in Sri Lanka, he is actively working on strengthening synergies between the 1972 and 2003 Conventions.
