Mr Rodrigo Aravena Alvarado

Inspired by the 2003 Convention’s statement about “the profound interdependence between intangible cultural heritage and tangible cultural and natural heritage,” I have developed a professional career that seeks to articulate seemingly disparate fields, yet ones that can be understood and managed in an integrated manner.

I have promoted governance spaces for the safeguarding of ICH, and I have also sought to deepen the understanding and integrated management of ICH and Historical Memory. I have served as director of ICH at the National Cultural Heritage Service of Chile and as the Technical Secretary of the Historical Memory Board.
