Silverse Anami is a Kenyan Cultural Administrator who established the leadership of the management of culture at the grassroots and enhanced its influence at both the national and international level. He spearheaded Kenya’s participation in the negotiation, adoption, ratification and implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention in many ways, ranging from capacity building, evaluation and awareness raising. As Director of Culture, he worked closely with the UNESCO Nairobi Office to help operationalize the Convention in the region and beyond. His work strengthened Kenya’s institutional capacity to implement community-based heritage protection and positioned the country within UNESCO’s global framework for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage for the benefit of the present and future generations.
