Overview:
UNESCO ROSA made significant strides to strengthen national capacities for the effective safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage over the past years. This activity seeks to strengthen sub-regional cooperation and national capacities for the effective implementation of the 2003 Convention. It will pay due attention to the adequacy of institutional environments, abilities to set up or revise legislative and policy frameworks and the availability of national expertise. It consolidates the results of previous Regular Programme and Extra-budgetary activities paying particular attention to the capacity in preparation of International Assistance requests and safeguarding plans among others.
The operational capacity of the existing national Intangible Cultural Heritage Committees in the sub-region will be strengthened. Support will be provided for national capacity building workshops (at least 1 in each country) on the implementation of the Convention with the involvement of the civil society (community level). These trainings, based on the global capacity building strategy as well as on the achievements of the several Flanders FIT financed XB projects, are set to reinforce human and institutional capacities both at national and sub-regional levels. The training activities will contain components of awareness rising of gender principles, especially women’s roles in intangible cultural heritage safeguarding. The sex-disaggregated data on the participants in the training activities will be used to inform on the gender equality marker.
