Overview:

Implemented between 2012 and 2016, this project has aimed at enhancing safeguarding capacities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan through effective implementation of the Convention, thereby contributing to sustainable development. It has promoted better visibility of intangible cultural heritage, awareness of its significance and its function in societies. By promoting mutual respect for the heritage of others, this project has contributed to fostering cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace in all four countries.

The following series of training workshops was delivered in all four beneficiary countries:

  • Implementing the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at the National Level
  • Community-based Inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage and
  • Preparing Nominations for the Urgent Safeguarding List
