With reference to the project Strengthening capacities for preparing nomination files for the Lists of the 2003 Conventions in Small Island and Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean, financed by a voluntary contribution from the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, 16 Caribbean Small Island and Developing States received in September 2023 an online capacity-building course on preparing nominations for the Lists of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. These countries are Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. The 2023 training involved over 70 participants and focused on preparing dossiers using the revised nomination forms (ICH-01 and ICH-02), which were updated to reflect the outcomes of the global reflection on the 2003 Convention’s listing mechanism.

To follow-up on the 2023 training, an online meeting is convened in June 2025. In addition to highlighting the results of the capacity-building approach, the meeting will provide a platform for Caribbean SIDS to deepen collaboration, share lessons learned, and explore strategies for ongoing and future nominations. The meeting is meant to enable peer-to-peer exchange on recent nomination experiences, identify support needs, and introduce participants to additional key development that were not covered in the initial 2023 training.
