New steps for safeguarding living heritage in Albania

Following a needs assessment carried out with UNESCO’s support, Albania is taking new steps in building professional and institutional capacities for safeguarding its living heritage.
A workshop on implementing the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at the national level will be held from 14 to 18 September in Tirana with the participation of local authorities, practitioners, civil society organizations and experts. Introducing the key concepts and mechanisms of the Convention, the workshop will also discuss in particular community-based inventorying and safeguarding. A fieldtrip will follow which will provide participants with an opportunity to relate the theoretical knowledge to a real-life situation and discuss linkages with sustainable development strategies.
Organized in the context of the UNESCO’s Global Capacity-building Strategy for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, the workshop is supported by the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO
