On the first International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, a webinar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a global panel of experts is organized on 17 October 2024 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (CET).

This event will provide an opportunity to understand what AI is and how it may affect sustainable development and the safeguarding of living heritage practices by concerned communities, groups, and individuals. With examples from different regions, the panel aims to map the main challenges related to AI use, with a particular focus on creating and using AI systems in the context of intangible cultural heritage practices.

The webinar will also explore what can be done to maximize benefits and mitigate harms for the bearers of intangible cultural heritage. The discussion will focus on sharing experiences and exploring how to ensure equitable control, access, and ethical use of AI in supporting and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and its practitioners.

This webinar was organized in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair on Intangible Cultural Heritage in Public and Global Governance.
