Werkstatt der lebendigen Traditionen – Second edition

On 17 October, UNESCO’s International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, we open the gates at Rittergut Schönberg for the second Werkstatt der lebendigen Traditionen.
This year’s theme is cloth.
In 2026, custom tailoring for men – Herrenschneiderhandwerk – was inscribed in Germany’s Nationwide Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. We took that as a reason to ask, here in the Altmark, how fabric carries cultural memory: cut, wear, inheritance, repair.
Together with the Kreismuseum Osterburg we will show fashion plates by Helmut Rieck from 1949. There will be song and poetry, making stations, and a prize for a historical costume at least thirty years old. Not a display behind glass. Living heritage in a tractor hall.
Ulrike Petzold, Executive Director of the German umbrella of cultural support associations, put our work like this: global questions brought down to local practice; the safeguarding of intangible heritage made concrete enough to pick up with both hands.
Supported by the MikroKulturFonds and the Landesheimatbund Sachsen-Anhalt.
Saturday, 17 October 2026, 14:00–17:00 Rittergut Schönberg, Dammstr. 35, Seehausen (Altmark)
