”Our bells and their ringers” - Thematic serial cycle of popular– professional radio contributions about bells, bell ringers, bell-founders and bell-ringing
As the first and currently the only project in Slovakia, which systematically creates and presents throughout Slovakia a unique sound and story database of hundreds of historical and modern bells, bell ringers and bell-founders of Slovakia as our original and irreplaceable musical, church and cultural both intangible and tangible heritage. At the same time, in its dense 5/10 minute summary and listener accessibility, it is a very suitable and acceptable media promotion of the intangible heritage - of monuments and attractions of localities, regions and personalities, with the involvement of numerous experts and local respondents in individual parts of the series as an added value (up to todays – more than 500 series, since 2012, broadcasted every week). It is a highlight of the uniqueness and rich tradition of bell-ringing craft in our country, but above all it is an appreciation and important support of the disappearing and endangered profession of bell-ringers and traditional manual ringing. They are since 2011 as a new protected element in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovakia, and since 2013, their possible entry into the world’s most important UNESCO list of intangible heritage is also being prepared. The series are also a very suitable tool for media support of multi-confessionalism, ecumenism, multi-ethnicity and healthy local patriotism, as well as an appreciated educational program.
