Let’ dance - Discover the World Dance Programme on international Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Germany

In 2019 the World Dance Programme was entered as a model project in the Federal Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Germany as an example of good safeguarding practice. Bundled in the ADTV 850 dance schools organise their daily work to bring the 12 dances of the World Dance Programme closer to the civilian population. These include waltz, discofox and rumba, but also salsa any many more.

On the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage everyone has the opportunity to experience intangible cultural heritage in one of the 9 participating dance schools, which are spread all over Germany. Each participating dance school has come up with its own free hands-on programme aimed at all age groups and genders. Whether children’s dance, youth courses, couple and vocal dance, or inclusion dances in a special education centre: Everything is possible and permitted here. So - Let’s dance!

The activity is the result of a joint appeal by the ADTV and the German Commission for UNESCO. On the occasion of this year’s international day, the German Focal Point of the Implementation of the 2003 Convention would like to put the spotlight on intangible cultural heritage with a focus on dance practices. Further events with this thematic focus will follow during the International Day event period in the beginning of November. Stay tuned.
