International symposium "Tocatì, a shared heritage" at Festival Tocatì 2023
Since 2016, the international symposium “Tocatì, a shared heritage” has brought together in Verona Institutions and communities of Tocatì’s nomination for the Register of Good Practices for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, giving space to strategic roundtables about ICH. The Symposium is the result of the collaboration beetween the cultural institutions of Belgium, Cyprus, Croatia and France and the Service II
- UNESCO Office of the General Secretariat of the MIC which oversaw the institutional technical-scientific coordination of the application process. It’s going to take place in a context of exceptional importance:
- The ICH Convention 2003 celebrates its twenty years Anniversary: this symposium is an opportunity to share and to celebrate this global success, giving attention to Traditional Sports and Games as Living Heritage;
- The Tocatì Program was incribed on 1 December 2022 in Rabat in the UNESCO Register of Good Practices of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is the first International Symposium after the inscription!
- The use of the Register is promoted by UNESCO and some States Parties as an innovative and strategic tool for the future of the Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).
About this last aspect this edition of the Symposium will be dedicated: it’s going to give a chance to update and share considerations on its use of the Register of Good Practices at an international, national and local level.
