Intangible Cultural Heritage Today: Research into sustainability, the colonial present, inclusion, and inventory practices
Intangible cultural heritage connects, lives, and is constantly evolving. It links generations, past, present, and future. But intangible heritage can also cause friction: it is sometimes complicated, complex, and it can lead to exclusion just as much as inclusion.
Like intangible cultural heritage itself, research into ‘living’ heritage does not stand still. Think, for example, of critical heritage studies or the relationship between intangible cultural heritage and sustainability issues. Or the different ways in which the colonial past continues to influence intangible cultural heritage. In short: a dynamic field of research in full bloom.
That is why the Dutch Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage Netherlands is organizing the symposium “Intangible cultural heritage today” on November 8th. During this symposium, we will present research and projects that KIEN has worked on in recent years. The focus will be on knowledge exchange and strengthening the research field. Additionally, we aim to build a network of researchers within the field of intangible heritage together with you.
