Forum "Connecting Living Heritage, Cultural Rights, and Sustainable Development from Latin America"

This forum, to be held in Lima, Peru, from October 17 to 18, aims to create a high-level technical space to reflect on the interrelations and challenges between Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), cultural rights, and sustainable development. This meeting will foster dialogue among diverse perspectives of regional actors working on these issues, aligning with the spirit of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Final Declaration of the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT.

Objectives:

  • Deepen the connection points between ICH, cultural rights, and sustainable development.
  • Strengthen regional networks and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
  • Reaffirm the importance of safeguarding living heritage as a pillar for the exercise of cultural rights.

Format:
The forum will feature a combination of discussion panels, a keynote lecture, and a roundtable of experiences. Most activities will be held in person, but it is yet to be confirmed whether the keynote lecture will be in-person or virtual. Additionally, the roundtable of experiences will be conducted in a hybrid format to expand the participation of key actors.

Expected Impact:
The expected impact of the forum includes enhancing the visibility and importance of developing an approach that integrates sustainable development, cultural rights, and living heritage. Additionally, it aims to strengthen networks of exchange and cooperation among various stakeholders, fostering collaboration and shared knowledge.
In 2025, we aim to publish a digital version of a document that reflects the exchanges, reflections, and shared experiences.
We hope that the discussions taking place at the Forum will serve as a starting point for further discussions in regional meetings leading up to Mondiacult 2025.

Live Streaming:
The forum will be live-streamed through CRESPIAL’s social media (FaceBook).
