Gremi de Margers de Mallorca is a non profit association of professional dry stone wallers, born in 2016 and working to keep the trade alive as it’s been for centuries in our island. The northern Tramuntana Range was awarded with UNESCO Human Heritage as cultural landscape due to its dry stone mixture with nature. Our island it’s world known, specially among stone people, because of the dry stone features and the special way to fit the stones creating random patterns.
This special system makes people from other parts of the world curious about that
technique and want to learn it along with skilled masters. We’be been hosting many workshops but this will be the first with japanese participants. We all share two things: passion for stone and keepers of an immaterial knowledge as dry stone technique is.

Programme

The workshop will take place at the village of Deià, in the heart of Serra de Tramuntana-UNESCO World Heritage site , from 9 to 16 October 2025.

We will rebuild an old stone path and a retaining wall as well, so participants will have the chance to put their hands on two different features. They will learn about new tools and new ways of laying the stones, all along with some theory and historic explanations.
