Goal
- Producing and testing a practical, portable and interactive educational toolkit for trainers and teachers for integrating intangible cultural heritage in education in Egypt.
Description
The UNESCO Office in Cairo has developed an educational toolkit for safeguarding living heritage. It was designed to be a practical, portable and interactive educational toolkit for trainers and teachers for integrating intangible cultural heritage in education in Egypt.
Created for young people from age 6 to 12, the kit can be used in different educational settings, such as schools, museums, cultural centres, community spaces, etc. The toolkit consists of a user manual and a collection of educational materials of approximately 15 games and interactive activities, with two or three activities for each domain of intangible cultural heritage. The toolkit is flexible enough in that materials can be tailored to specific local needs. The toolkit manual also allows the user to replace the selected ICH elements based on the priorities and norms in their neighborhoods.
A series of three participatory workshops in different areas in Cairo were used to design the kit, where it was tested with young people. Expanding the geographical scope beyond Cairo and the age group that benefits from the toolkit could be the focus of further development.
The toolkit was produced as part of the project ‘Strengthening national capacities for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in Egypt for sustainable development’, generously supported by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Cultural Authority (ADTCA) of the United Arab Emirates.
Outputs
