Today, 17 October 2025 marks the second edition of the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, since its proclamation by the 42nd session of the General Conference in 2023.
Once again, the global campaign has generated remarkable enthusiasm, bringing together more than one hundred activities organised across all regions of the world.
Driven by communities and heritage bearers themselves, this year’s celebration is profoundly participatory and rooted in local initiatives. Through the global online campaign, different institutions, stakeholders and practitioners, are sharing their practices and events, showcasing the vitality of living heritage in their everyday lives. From educational initiatives in schools to community festivals and exhibitions, from academic conferences to intergenerational workshops and national press campaign, each of these activities contributes to raising awareness about the diversity of intangible cultural heritage and the importance of safeguarding it.
Through their daily efforts, communities and heritage bearers demonstrate that intangible cultural heritage is not a static concept, but a living resource, imbued with creativity, cohesion and hope, that helps those practicing it in promoting a world of peace and mutual understanding.
