A biennial Congress is attended by over 900 people. Working groups in archives, heritage and cultural property and other ICH related areas hold biennial convenings. Members publish extensively about a variety of heritage topics, provide policy advice to governments, engage in safeguarding, manage archives and train post-secondary students in
courses dealing with heritage issues and practices. A statement on data management in ethnology and folklore provides ethical standards for the storage and sharing of research materials. See also the position paper, “SIEF and UNESCO: Making a Difference” https://www.siefhome.
