Julius Shoboi Mwahunga is the Deputy Director of Culture Programme at the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. With a background in Education and a dual Master of Arts degree in Development Studies and Heritage Management, he leads efforts in culture and heritage policy development, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. He organizes capacity-building programs for youth on UNESCO’s 2003 Convention, undertakes capacity needs assessment for intangible cultural heritage safeguarding, oversees the nomination of elements of intangible cultural heritage, and facilitates their inclusion in UNESCO lists, such as the listing of the Mwazindika Spiritual Dance of the Dawida Community. Mwahunga provides critical support in the periodic reporting of the UNESCO 2003 Convention and coordinates the implementation of safeguarding measures and plans. He undertakes stakeholder engagement in the implementation of the Convention at the national level and updating of the Inventory for intangible cultural heritage elements. Additionally, he manages fundraising initiatives, develops budgets, and implements intangible cultural heritage projects
