National capacity-building for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Italy
UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture of Italy are proud to announce the launching event of the new capacity-building course on the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Italy. The event will take place at the Ministry of Culture (Via del Collegio Romano, 27, Rome), on 5 June, from 10 am to 12:30 pm, in the year that marks the twentieth anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, adopted on 17 October 2003.
The course, which is part of UNESCO’s global capacity-building programme for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage, is organised by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe in close cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture of Italy, with the objectives to raise awareness, advance knowledge and develop skills of relevant actors, while improving networking and cooperation at country level.
The course, which is among the activities identified by the Osservatorio Nazionale del Patrimonio Immateriale UNESCO for 2022, is primarily addressed to the communities involved with the Italian elements inscribed on the UNESCO Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices, as well as to staff from relevant institutions, civil society organisations, researchers and other practitioners in the field of living heritage.
The opening event will be followed by a series of 15 online sessions, from end-August until the end of 2023.
The programme will directly benefit 150 individual participants, with cascading effects on the concerned communities and their intangible cultural heritage.
