Abaim proposes to celebrate the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage 2026 by highlighting the rich musical and dance traditions of Rodrigues Island, an integral part of the Republic of Mauritius. Although Rodrigues has long been recognized for its distinctive cultural expressions, geographical isolation and historical circumstances have often limited their visibility and integration within the broader national cultural landscape. This initiative seeks to strengthen recognition of Rodrigues’ living heritage as an essential component of the country’s cultural diversity and identity.
