The Art Archive exhibition and immersive activities

The Art Archive is a virtual museum that has been built by the Pearl Rhythm Foundation with support from the French Embassy in Uganda to archive living heritage of Uganda, and promote it to various audiences especially the young generation who rarely get the opportunity to truly appreciate cultural heritage of Indigenous People in the country. The virtual museum is a sustainable platform that will not only showcase Ugandan culture but also engage heritage bearers and talented members of Indigenous minority communities as content contributors, contributing to their economic development over time. The website will also promote cultural experiences for cultural enthusiasts while making a significant contribution towards community causes such as supporting eco systems, livelihoods, health and education initiatives.

A community’s heritage is essential to its identity and to the continuity of life for humanity, carrying invaluable historical, aesthetic, and artistic values. Yet, it is increasingly important to ensure that it thrives alongside dominant artistic trends and to safeguard it from potentially negative factors, so that it can continue to inspire and enrich our shared cultural landscape. Most of this rich heritage is in need of urgent safeguarding, especially within indigenous minority groups such as the Batwa, Kebu, Ike, and many others. With strengthened and innovative community-based efforts, their living heritage can be better transmitted to future generations, embracing approaches that are both inclusive and sustainable.

As the Pearl Rhythm Foundation prepares to showcase some of this content on 10 October 2025 to mark the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, a series of immersive activities will be organized: an exhibition, a talk, and short quizzes, to enable participants to experience and celebrate this living heritage in the most engaging way, while honouring the dignity of its bearers and fostering its vitality.
