Our Living Heritage Creative Competition
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention of 2003, the Directorate of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Hungarian Open Air Museum has launched a creative competition under the title Our Living Heritage. The creative competition was aimed at young people from the age of 7 to 18. Applicants could choose from six themes, based on the Hungarian heritage elements from the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: Hungarian string band tradition, Lipizzan horse breeding tradition, Falconry, Blue-dyeing tradition, Folk Art of the Matyó and the Busó festivities at Mohács. Students used different artistic techniques to express their ideas and their own unique vision about living heritage. A jury of artists, museum educators and heritage experts selected 37 awarded artworks, divided into five age groups, sent from all over the country and beyond. The award ceremony took place on 28 May 2023 at the Whitsun Heritage Festival in the Hungarian Open Air Museum where the winners could meet with the members of the heritage communities they had depicted, and receive their gifts. The best works of art were displayed in an exhibition at the museum, the material of which is available as a virtual exhibition on the website of the Directorate of ICH Hungary.
