Opening of the exhibition "You too are a living heritage"
The Slovak ICH Centre at the Slovak State Traditional Dance Company launched a photography competition to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The competition, titled “You too are a living heritage,” invited participants to capture the essence of living heritage and how its custodians preserve it. The photographs highlight the diversity and richness of this heritage, raising awareness of its importance and the need for its protection.
The initiative aimed not only to document living heritage but also to emphasize the crucial role of those who safeguard and pass it on. The competition ran from 8 September to 30 November 2023, attracting 55 photographers who submitted a total of 202 photos.
On 18 December 2023, an expert jury—comprised of Peter Brenkus, Martin Kleibl, and Zuzana Pustaiová—convened to evaluate the entries. The vernissage is scheduled for the 2024 edition of FOLKEXPO, coinciding with the celebration of the 1st Anniversary of the International Day of ICH.
