‘Kichwa voices on screen: film forum on language revitalization’ in Quito
As part of a series of events organized in October 2025 by the Instituto Nacional de Patrimonio Cultural (INPC) to mark the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the ‘Kichwa voices on screen: film forum on language revitalization’ event presents audiovisual projects developed by Kichwa communities with the support of INPC.
The screenings showcase innovative approaches to language preservation, including: intergenerational storytelling sessions, school programs teaching Kichwa through music, and digital apps developed by community members. A panel discussion follows with project leaders from Chimborazo, Imbabura and Napo provinces, sharing challenges in documentation and strategies for engaging youth. The forum particularly highlights how audiovisual media can serve both preservation and contemporary communication needs for indigenous languages. Participants will receive a compilation of the projects for educational use.
