The twentieth session of the Intergovernmental Committee will be generously hosted by India from 8 to 13 December 2025 in New Delhi. The Committee in December 2024 approved this offer with enthusiasm.
H.E. Mr Vishal V. Sharma, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of India to UNESCO will chair this twentieth session of the Committee, with the Bureau members from France, Slovakia, Barbados, Ethiopia and Mauritania as Vice-Chairs, and Ms Aysha Kamali (United Arab Emirates) as Rapporteur.
India ratified the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2005 - this session will coincide with the twentieth anniversary of that ratification. There are 15 elements inscribed on the Representative List in India:

- 2012: Buddhist chanting of Ladakh: recitation of sacred Buddhist texts in the trans-Himalayan Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir, India
- 2010: Chhau dance
- 2010: Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan
- 2010: Mudiyettu, ritual theatre and dance drama of Kerala
- 2009: Ramman, religious festival and ritual theatre of the Garhwal Himalayas, India
- 2008: Kutiyattam, Sanskrit theatre
