En esta ocasión, los expertos confirmaron la definición aprobada en Turín, recomendando al mismo tiempo que se celebraran nuevas consultas sobre cuestiones de terminología. Además, los expertos opinaron que una política de salvaguardia y promoción del patrimonio cultural inmaterial en el ámbito internacional debería abarcar un doble enfoque, basado en criterios de evaluación internos (importancia del patrimonio para la identidad de un grupo social) y externos (como el respeto de los derechos humanos reconocidos universalmente o la aptitud para impulsar el diálogo intercultural).
