Prof. Herbert Chimhundu holds a PhD in sociolinguistics. After teaching and
holding senior positions at different universities for many years, he is
officially retired but continues to serve as a Research Consultant at Midlands
State University in Zimbabwe. His research interests have shifted from Shona
language to African lexicography and intangible cultural heritage (ICH). He
has worked as an ICH expert under both the Proclamation of Masterpieces
programme and the 2003 Convention. He was Coordinator of the Southern
African Intangible Cultural Heritage Cooperation Platform (SAICH Platform,
2015-21, www.saich.org), which successfully implemented the sub-regional
UNESCO-Flanders project on ICH safeguarding in seven countries.
