Training Course on the Protection of intangible cultural heritage in armed conflict and the post-conflict period

On the ocasion of the 20th Anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Cyprus Security and Defence Academy (CSDA) and the Polish Naval Academy (AMW), under the aegis of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), organise a course on Protection of intangible heritage in armed conflict and the post-conflict period. The activity is organised with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture in Cyprus and the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO. It is scheduled to be held in Larnaca, Cyprus, from 19 to 22 September 2023.

The intangible heritage has a major impact on local society resilience to current and future conventional and hybrid conflicts. The course aims to present the connection of the intangible heritage with social resilience during crises, armed conflict and in post-conflict regions, and to provide the personnel of EU institutions, relevant bodies and Member States involved in crisis and conflict prevention and management, and post-conflict stabilisation and recovery activities, with knowledge about the need to protect intangible heritage.

The course is open to personnel working in conflict prevention, conflict management and post-conflict recovery and stabilisation contexts relating to the protection of cultural heritage at an operational level. Owing to the integrated, holistic approach on protection of cultural property, participants may be civilian, diplomats, senior-ranking military or police officers and border guard staff.
