Step 2:
Consult the National Commission for UNESCO and/or the national authority in charge of the use of the Convention emblem in whose territory the activity will take place
The first step for any organization seeking the use of the Convention emblem for patronage is to contact the National Commission for UNESCO and/or national authority in charge of managing the use of the Convention emblem in the country in which the organization is registered. The national authority will in some cases be the National Commission, so only a single consultation is required. The National Commission and national authority will advise on:
- the general acceptability of the request ;
- whether the National Commission or national authority wishes to support the request ;
- whether another National Commission or national authority may need to be contacted (for activities taking place in different countries)
Find the name and the contact details of the authority in charge of managing the use of the Convention emblem.
Step 3:
Complete the official Patronage Request Form
All requests must be submitted via the official Patronage Request Form. The form will need to be completely filled and as detailed as possible. (inglés|francés).

Any patronage request should be accompanied by a letter of support emanating from the National Commission for UNESCO in the country where the organization requesting the patronage is based and where the activity will take place, is the activity is planned in another country.
Step 5:
Forward request to UNESCO Secretariat
The completed request form and the endorsements from the National Commission and national authority should be sent to the Director-General of UNESCO at least three months before the starting date of the activity.
Please note that the completed request form must be accompanied by the activity-related layouts and examples of all printed or audiovisual promotional materials (cinematographic works, books, banners, posters, invitations, etc.) that are expected to bear the emblem of the Convention.
Those documents can be sent either by the submitting organization, the National Commission or the national relevant authority.
All requests must be sent by formal correspondence to the following address:

Step 6:
Receive notification from UNESCO

If a request is declined, the responsible body will receive a letter from the UNESCO Secretariat explaining the reasons why the request has not been accepted.
In both cases, the UNESCO Secretariat will also inform the designated national authorities.
Step 7:
Obtain the electronic file of the 2003 Convention logo
If the patronage is granted, the official logo “Under the patronage of UNESCO/2003 Convention” should be asked directly to the relevant UNESCO service. This logo will be electronically supplied and this electronic file should not be modified under any circumstances.
The modalities of this request will be explained in the document accompanying the office letter granting the patronage.
