Benefitting country(ies): Barbados

Overview:

The pandemic brought many activities to a standstill in Barbados. For various communities this has meant a limited embodiment and practice of their intangible cultural heritage. Prior to this emergency, bearers had already called for support in safeguarding their heritage in difficult and changing contexts. Through a series of virtual sessions bringing together various stakeholders, including authorities and communities, this project will raise awareness about the opportunities of the 2003 Convention, thereby increasing the visibility and understanding of living heritage. Methodologies and challenges of inventory-making will be presented, as well as the potentialities in the identification of Barbados’ living heritage.
