By depositing with the Director-General its instrument of ratification on 17 November 2022, San Marino became, three months later, the 181st State to join the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage on 17 February 2023.
As State Party to the Convention, San Marino is now part of a worldwide international network committed to supporting communities in the safeguarding of their living heritage for the benefit of present and future generations.
The year 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the Convention, signed by the General Conference of UNESCO on 17 October 2003, at its 32nd session. Despite being one of the youngest UNESCO conventions in the field of culture, the 2003 Convention has seen an exceptional rapid rate of ratification. With 181 countries having ratified it to date, the Convention is close to reaching universality.
The Secretariat of the 2003 Convention is pleased to welcome San Marino and is looking forward to a strengthened cooperation.
