The International Conference on Intangible Cultural Heritage Theme: "Local Heritage Wisdom: A Traditional Medicine"
Themed “Local Heritage Wisdom: A Traditional Medicine”, this conference aims to bring together leading experts, industry players, and heritage enthusiasts to exchange experiences, sharing best practices and ideas related to current and emerging issues associated with the importance of sustaining and safeguarding traditional medical practices. The 3-day conference will consist of a session of country presentation, exhibitions, sales of products related to traditional medicine, demonstrations of traditional medicine, cultural performances and excursion. This conference will involve participation from Asia Pacific Region member countries, include Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, China, Timor-Leste, South Korea, Kazakhstan, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia. The target group of conference participants is students of higher learning institutes, researchers, NGOs, and medical practitioners. The output of this conference is the publication of the proceedings which includes the presentation papers from all the participant.
This conference will focus on three main topics, namely Traditional Medicine for women: Postpartum Mother Care, Practices and Beliefs in Traditional Medicine and Safeguarding and Sustainability of Traditional Medicine.
The objectives of the programme:
(i) To highlight the different forms and regions of traditional medicine.
(ii) To document the traditional medical practices and knowledge as our efforts to safeguard intangible heritage and promote cultural diversity.
(iii) To introduce traditional medicine around the world and emphasize the significance of traditional medicine as a social practice and traditional knowledge in the 2003 Convention.
(iv) To discover knowledge about traditional medicine and the value of endangered traditional knowledge to communities and countries.
(v) To understand the need for the sustainability and safeguarding of traditional medicine.
